Smith to General Manager and Partner.  After four years with the company, Adrienne has overseen strong growth for the brand in her role overseeing marketing, hospitality, sales and operations with an innovative and high energy approach.  She was appointed by the partners to oversee their next stage of growth in 2018 and quickly moved from Director of Hospitality and Marketing to the General Manager role six months into her tenure. With an MBA in Finance as well as an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, Smith has brought to Parallel Napa Valley a sound business mind and a savvy knack for wine hospitality. During her tenure, Direct-to-Consumer Sales has grown by nearly 200% while membership in their Black Diamond Wine Clubs has increased by nearly four-fold. Domaine Carneros Celebrates Sustainability Highlights for Earth Day 2022 Napa, CA – March 17, 2022 – In anticipation of the upcoming Earth Day, April 22nd the Domaine Carneros team will be toasting this year, with a glass of sparkling wine, no doubt! Most likely, one crafted from their Carneros AVA estate vineyards, which have been cultivated sustainably for decades. Since its founding in 1987, Domaine Carneros has put sustainability initiatives at the forefront of their daily practices, consistently working to minimize their environmental impact as true stewards of the land.   The intention at Domaine Carneros is to create the best wines and most memorable sparkling wine experiences through healthy land, vines, and people. For the past 35 years, Domaine Carneros has pushed the sustainability envelope to ensure that the winery lives as lightly on the land as possible while producing excellent grapes, and, of course, wine. In pursuit of the highest standards, Domaine Carneros has sought and received certifications from numerous prestigious sustainable organizations.  Annual assessments and audits seek out new areas to improve upon rigorous standards of sustainability not only for the winery, but also for its place in the community and as an employer. The winery implements the following measures towards continuous improvement: Re-use and recycling Through composting, recycling and reuse, over 90% of solid waste is diverted from landfills. Water used in the production process is recycled and used to irrigate the estate vineyards. Two thirds of the winery’s water is reclaimed and reused.  A decade-long packaging reuse program, whereby 20-25% of cases and inserts are reused for in-house purposes. Sustainability Practices Solar energy has long been a crucial aspect of Domaine Carneros’ sustainability plan, having installed the largest solar collection system of any winery in the world when it was implemented in 2003. In 2022, Domaine Carneros will be among the first wineries in the Napa Valley to install a solar microgrid and battery system, which will supply 75% of the winery’s power, and ultimately allow the winery to be self-sustaining during power outages.  The winery’s use of skylights, building into the earth, and employing night cooling systems to maintain cellar temperatures all contribute to energy conservation as well as robust employee involvement in daily conservation efforts.  The winery practices Integrated Pest Management using natural controls for vineyard pests such as boxes to attract owls which feed on voles and using cover crops that attract beneficial insects to control insect pests. Grape pomace from harvest is used to feed local cattle in a region of California with historic ties to the dairy business. Commitment to Employees The winery has strong principles of diversity, equity and inclusion, and its staff is reflective of that commitment. The winery practices open book management, inspiring all employees to be a part of a collective success. The winery fosters and encourages mentorship for its staff and embraces professional development beyond the team in the form of scholarship offerings.                                                  The winery has been awarded several prestigious honors from the state of California and other well-respected organizations. In 2020, the winery received the Napa Climate NOW! award for being a Climate Champion in the Business Category.  The winery also received the California Green Medal Business Award in 2019 for "demonstrating smart business through efficiencies, cost savings, and innovation from implementing sustainable practices." Only four wineries are awarded the medal each year, so the honor is quite significant given the number of wineries in the state. Domaine Carneros Announces 2022 Scholarship and Mentorship Programming with University of California Davis, The Culinary Institute of America, and Bâtonnage Forum CEO prioritizes mentorship and scholarship as part of winery's core tenets   Napa, CA - February 2022- Domaine Carneros, the Napa Valley based premier producer of sparkling wine, proudly announces a 2022 program of mentorship and scholarship for deserving diverse professionals seeking training and financial support to grow professionally within the wine industry.   Grounded in the winery’s philosophy of visionary female leadership, CEO Remi Cohen framed out Domaine Carneros' commitment to the advancement of diversity, via several programs.   The goal? To offer diverse professionals the pathways to success for realizing their career goals. In December, the winery announced its partnership with Bâtonnage Forum, to launch Level Three of their Mentorship Program, which equips candidates to enter and grow in the wine industry by creating hands-on work opportunities.  Domaine Carneros and Bâtonnage Forum co-created a custom-built job placement at the winery, which started in January and will conclude in November 2022.   Level Three of the Bâtonnage Mentorship Program builds upon the networking, guidance, and education offered in Levels One and Two to give mentees a more in-depth, career enhancing experience. Glancy Wine Education Foundation Offers Scholarship Opportunities with more than $100k in Funding Non-profit organization provides wine education scholarships to wine and hospitality professionals in need of assistance.     SAN FRANCISCO, CA (December 2021) – The Glancy Wine Education Foundation, on the heels of its fall fundraiser, announces that it has more than $100k in funding available for wine and hospitality professionals seeking certification in wine studies. Wrapping up a successful year, the organization awarded 79 scholarships since November 2020 to the tune of $149,000.    The wine and hospitality industries have had both challenges and opportunities during the last two years with the pandemic affecting employment and opportunities dramatically. The hospitality sector, which accounts for 25% of the entire U.S. work force, has been hit the hardest due to the pandemic.  Many professionals have had to pivot to find new roles within the industry, start new endeavors, or up their game with improved credentials. GWEF scholarships for wine classes offer a great pathway for advancement of knowledge, making job candidates more competitive and better informed.   The foundation’s mission is to provide wine education scholarships to wine and hospitality professionals in need of assistance, with a focus on BIPOC and female candidates.  The average scholarship awarded is $1800. Fifty-seven percent of the awardees are BIPOC, 60% of which are female, 40% male, with an average age of 40. More than half of the candidates are currently unemployed. For those who have lost hours or their entire jobs, using the downtime to advance their careers makes a lot of sense. It’s a great time to apply! The Consortium for the Protection of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG announces results of the 2021 harvest. October 7, 2021, Solighetto - The Consortium for the Protection of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG announced this week the successful conclusion of harvest 2021.  It kicked off in mid-September in the Conegliano area and moved westward towards the heroic territories around Valdobbiadene around the end of September, concluding on October 3rd  for the entire region.    The denomination concludes the most important moment of the year resting on the solid foundations of its most recent successes. More than 64 million bottles have been certified to date in 2021, and given the reduced yields of 2020, now the region is back to  normalizing the production quantities laid out in the regulations. "We are really pleased with the positive results that the denomination has achieved both at the close of 2020 and in 2021,"states Elvira Bortolomiol, President of the Consorzio di Tutela - "The analysis of the fruit in the vineyard assures us of a vintage that we will remember for its quality. We are proud of the work that all the winegrowers have achieved again this year. Our commitment shows not only our passion for wine, but also for the land, which is our most precious asset. Meteorological trends in 2021 From a meteorological point of view, 2021 was a cool year compared to the last 15 years; for this reason, the development of the vines and consequently the ripening of the grapes were significantly delayed, about ten to twelve days for each phenological phase. A cool spring carried on through April and May, with rains in May falling evenly throughout the region. In contrast to previous years, the summer months of June and July were less rainy and this had the advantage of having to deal with less disease in the vineyards. The vines yielded healthy bunches of grapes, which avoided sunburn or dehydration. The range of temperatures in August and a cool start to September led to good levels of acidity, which is essential for obtaining top quality sparkling wines with a marked freshness. Harvest operations began in the southeastern zone, on the slopes most exposed to the sun, and then moved towards the northwest during the month of September.  Given the characteristics of the terrain, marked by very steep slopes and ups and downs that are difficult for machinery to access, in Conegliano Valdobbiadene 600/700 hours per hectare per year of manual work are required, compared to an average of 150/200 hours per hectare in the flat areas, where mechanization is advanced. For this reason, the heroic harvest represents the moment of maximum ingenuity of the area's wine growers and is a time honored tradition that among other factors, distinguishes its DOCG status. Ms. Bortolomiol is the first female President in the history of the Consorzio and was unanimously elected by the board.
