Casey Flat Ranch Winery Unveils New Label Design

7 May, 2014

San Francisco, California Casey Flat Ranch, the Capay Valley’s leading producer of artisan Bordeaux and Rhone style wines, announced the spring unveiling of an updated label design today. “The classic new look not only evokes the winery’s heritage but also reflects the quality of the wines,” explains Managing Partner, Alison Morey Garrett. As the wines have received more national recognition, the brand aesthetic has evolved from its inaugural design to speak more to its roots to the land and the property.

The revamped motif is reflected in two new label designs. Single varietal releases will feature an elegant, sepia-toned image of alone Texas Longhorn steer standing atop a rugged mount, framed by vintagepostcard stamps. The Estate Red Wine will showcase multiple steers to symbolize the multi-varietal blend. The designs conjure the rustic romance of the 200+ Longhorn cattle that roam the 6,000-acre mountain ranch. The antique postcard motif speaks to the property’s heritage dating back to the 19th century when it was included in the Berreyesa Spanish Land Grant of 1846, as well as the sense of escape one feels when visiting the Ranch.

Conceived and executed by design consultants Rick Anwyl and Brice Beasley, their objective with the new label was to communicate an authentic, emotional reflection of the core attributes of Casey Flat Ranch. As Rick describes, “It's about creating a visual experience for the consumer. The Casey Flat Ranch brand represents a new definition of modern day western; we think about it as patina vs. polish. That is what we desired to communicate through the archival steel etched engraving of a Longhorn cattle drive, sensitive typography and a deliberately detailed and visually arresting seal that was embossed into the label."

The new label design creates a clear delineation between the winery’s Casey Flat Ranch Estate and Open Range product tiers. The Open Range line relies on the winery’s relationships with top growers from California’s premier growing regions to craft richness and complexity alongside a varying percentage of estate fruit. The Estate wines showcase the Ranch’s own mountain vineyards, including the latest spring releases that now feature the new label: 2013 Sauvignon Blanc, 2013 Viognier and 2013 Syrah Rosé. Also included in the winery’s Estate tier is the Casey Flat Ranch Estate Grenache as well as the signature Estate Red Wine, a Syrah/Cabernet blend that will transition to its new label design with the 2012 release later this fall.

Consumers can expect to see the new packaging on shelves and in restaurants this month, with the full portfolio transitioned to the new design by early 2015.
