About Murrieta’s Well Winery

Murrieta’s Well is an elite Livermore Valley wine estate defined by its distinctive blended wines, stunning location, and a rich heritage that began in California’s Gold Rush era. In 1990, Fourth Generation Winegrower Philip Wente of the Wente family and Winemaker Sergio Traverso merged old and new winemaking styles, reviving the historic winery established by Livermore pioneer Louis Mel.

Surrounded by vineyards, the serene, idyllic location on the Arroyo Mocho Creek has a sense of timeless romanticism. The old stone winery building was originally built in the 1880s and is a gorgeous example of early California architecture. Local timber and rustic concrete made from gravel gathered from the nearby creek were used in the construction. Combined with Spanish design influences, the colorful past of Gold Rush era bandito Joaquin Murrieta, and ultra-premium wines, Murrieta's Well is a captivating and unforgettable destination.

Murrieta's Well’s flagship wines include the Whip and the Spur, handcrafted blends that highlight the best attributes of the unique Livermore Valley terroir. The Whip is a vibrant blend of aromatic estate-grown white grapes and The Spur is its red counterpart, a sumptuous blend of the best red varietals from Murrieta’s Well’s certified sustainable 92-acre vineyard. Both pay tribute to the property’s Bordeaux lineage, while the Zarzuela is a blend of Spanish and Portuguese varietals, modeled after the famous Spanish blends of Ribera del Duero and Rioja. Their small-production, tasting room-exclusive Los Tesoros de Joaquin wines round out an extraordinary portfolio.

The Los Tesoros de Joaquin wines are hand-crafted treasures and only available directly from the winery or through the Silver Spur Wine Club. For more information visit www.murrietaswell.com/wine-club
