Award-Winning California Winemaker Comes Home to Massachusetts

7 July, 2014

Award-Winning California Winemaker Comes Home to Massachusetts Vin Bin to host Southborough native Laura Barrett for a tasting of her Casey Flat Ranch wines on Friday, July 25th     Marlborough, Mass— Join Southborough native Laura Barrett as she comes home to debut her award-winning Casey Flat Ranch wines at Vin Bin’s Marlborough location on Friday, July 25th, from 5-7pm. Barrett’s artisan Bordeaux and Rhone style wines have received numerous accolades, including a (very recent) Double Gold Medal win at the June 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.   Barrett is thrilled to return to her hometown to present her wines. She credits her Algonquin Regional High School education (particularly her AP chemistry teacher, Lorraine Zanini) for sparking her interest in science – a subject she went on to pursue at the University of Vermont, the University of California at Davis, where she received her Masters in Viticulture & Enology (a highly competitive program), and within prestigious wine cellars in New Zealand, Australia and California.   Of the July 25th tasting, Barrett says, "It's a proud moment for me to return to my hometown to showcase Casey Flat Ranch wines.  I have a lot of ties to this area - my family, my childhood memories, and the roots of my science education. It’s a great opportunity to share the work I've been doing in California."   Barrett has deep local ties. Her family still lives in the area, and her grandparents owned (the now closed, but much beloved) The Andrea restaurant in Southborough. She comes back twice a year, but has never presented her wines to her hometown region. Like a good Bay Stater, she describes her winemaking style as “very realistic” and credits her success at Casey Flat Ranch to the estate’s exceptional fruit, as well as her preference to let the grapes speak for themselves.   Taste for yourself on July 25th! Barrett will be pouring from 5-7pm at Vin Bin’s Marlborough location: 91 Main St. (at the old Fire Station), Marlborough, MA 01752. Casey Flat Ranch wines are sold through Ruby Wines. Casey Flat Ranch Winery Unveils New Label Design

7 May, 2014

San Francisco, California — Casey Flat Ranch, the Capay Valley’s leading producer of artisan Bordeaux and Rhone style wines, announced the spring unveiling of an updated label design today. “The classic new look not only evokes the winery’s heritage but also reflects the quality of the wines,” explains Managing Partner, Alison Morey Garrett. As the wines have received more national recognition, the brand aesthetic has evolved from its inaugural design to speak more to its roots to the land and the property. The revamped motif is reflected in two new label designs. Single varietal releases will feature an elegant, sepia-toned image of alone Texas Longhorn steer standing atop a rugged mount, framed by vintagepostcard stamps. The Estate Red Wine will showcase multiple steers to symbolize the multi-varietal blend. The designs conjure the rustic romance of the 200+ Longhorn cattle that roam the 6,000-acre mountain ranch. The antique postcard motif speaks to the property’s heritage dating back to the 19th century when it was included in the Berreyesa Spanish Land Grant of 1846, as well as the sense of escape one feels when visiting the Ranch. Conceived and executed by design consultants Rick Anwyl and Brice Beasley, their objective with the new label was to communicate an authentic, emotional reflection of the core attributes of Casey Flat Ranch. As Rick describes, “It's about creating a visual experience for the consumer. The Casey Flat Ranch brand represents a new definition of modern day western; we think about it as patina vs. polish. That is what we desired to communicate through the archival steel etched engraving of a Longhorn cattle drive, sensitive typography and a deliberately detailed and visually arresting seal that was embossed into the label." The new label design creates a clear delineation between the winery’s Casey Flat Ranch Estate and Open Range product tiers. The Open Range line relies on the winery’s relationships with top growers from California’s premier growing regions to craft richness and complexity alongside a varying percentage of estate fruit. The Estate wines showcase the Ranch’s own mountain vineyards, including the latest spring releases that now feature the new label: 2013 Sauvignon Blanc, 2013 Viognier and 2013 Syrah Rosé. Also included in the winery’s Estate tier is the Casey Flat Ranch Estate Grenache as well as the signature Estate Red Wine, a Syrah/Cabernet blend that will transition to its new label design with the 2012 release later this fall. Consumers can expect to see the new packaging on shelves and in restaurants this month, with the full portfolio transitioned to the new design by early 2015.  About Casey Flat Ranch Winery Casey Flat Ranch is based in the Capay Valley AVA, in the Vaca Mountains bordering the eastern side of Napa County (22 miles due east of St. Helena). The working ranch is defined by its award-winning Rhone and Bordeaux-style blends, stunningly rugged location, the purebred Longhorn cattle that roam the estate, and a rich homesteading heritage that dates back to California’s Gold Rush era.
